[22:30]

Good evening, colleagues!

The congress week has officially kicked off. All organisers are now in Paris and preparing to deliver a great congress for all participants of ECSS Paris 2023.

An impression after today’s dinner at “La Défense” before tomorrow’s pre-congress programme with two Satellites, the General Assembly and several Masterclasses at the Palais des Congrès.

We look forward to welcoming you in Paris very soon!

[10:00]

Good morning, Paris!

We’re pleased to report many ECSS congress participants have now arrived in Paris, are checked into the official congress hotel, and are enjoying their first day in this beautiful city!

There have been no delays reported and public transport is running as normal. Travellers have been advised not to cancel their trips, but to avoid some areas of the city late at night.

Our team are busy setting up registration and making the final preparations to welcome you to our congress!

Please note, our congress hotel (Tribe, La Defense) is a few stops away from the congress centre or a 40-minute walk. Please check at your hotel’s reception desk for travel information and maps.

We’re looking forward to seeing some of you at our pre-congress day tomorrow, and everyone else on the first official congress day on Wednesday!

Yours in Sport Science,
The ECSS

[Evening]

All congress delegates have been informed via Newsletter about the current situation in Paris and that ECSS Paris 2023 will take place as planned. This was the information distributed to all congress delegates:

Dear ECSS Paris 2023 Participants,

Some of you have raised concern about the protests taking place in France and we would like to reassure you about the situation:

  • Nanterre, on the north-western outskirts of Paris, is one of the main areas of unrest and we strongly recommend that you do not visit or walk around this area.
  • Some public transport services are partly limited, but the Metro system is still operating as normal as are flights and trains coming in and out of Paris.
  • The security at the official congress hotel has been reassessed with additional measures in place, and both, the congress hotel as well as the congress centre have remarked that their venues are safe places.

After discussing the situation with our representatives in Paris, we would like to clarify that ECSS Paris 2023 will take place as planned.

Some large-scale events such as musical concerts have been cancelled by local government officials, but we have been assured by our contacts onsite that there is no cancellation of our congress. Many areas of Paris, including the area in which our congress will take place, are not affected by the protests and are functioning normally.

We remain in close contact with our local partners and members of the ECSS team, many of whom are already in Paris. We will update our website here with any new or relevant information.

Yours in Sport Science,
The ECSS

Power up Paralympic Performance – wheeling to success

Wheelchair athletes currently lack standardized wheelchair-specific tools for an objective monitoring of their anaerobic and aerobic power production. Wheelchair athletes from basketball, rugby, tennis, triathlon and track & field performed tests on the Esseda ergometer. Learn more about the results and possibilities.

Join our immersive workshop on understanding the key influential parameters of force plate measurements. Biomechanics Expert Thomas Walter, MSc, from Kistler will equip you with practical tips on how to optimize your measurements, walk you through common usage and installation mistakes – and explain in detail how to avoid them. Key topics include:

  • Identifying potential mistakes during preparation, setup and installation of force plates
  • Minimizing noise from vibrating buildings
  • Avoiding excessively low resonant frequencies
  • Implementing effective signal filtering techniques
  • Adapting your measurement system to optimize data acquisition in your specific application

We encourage you to bring your most burning questions as we will use our session to answer them, offer insights from our own experience and even do live demonstrations during and after the workshop.

Do not miss out on this experience and expand your expertise in force plate measurements and installation!

Our mission is to reveal natural talents, without tedious questionnaires and cognitive biases, thanks to the body intelligence the ActionTypes approach (ATA) exposes.

ActionTypes is the founding approach (1989) to the identification of natural strengths through movement and coordination, known as motor signatures.

Bertrand Théraulaz and Ralph Hippolyte are the two founders of this approach of natural movement. Starting from a need for performance in sport, they quickly realized that their discoveries could have major repercussions for the personal development of individuals, teams, and groups.

We have acquired the conviction through contribution to numerous world and Olympic medals that one of the best ways of developing people and teams in sport, business, education, and well-being is to highlight the coherence of motor dynamics adapted to the context and the intention pursued by individuals and/or groups.

Thanks to this experience, we have highlighted 5 essential principles of the AT approach manifesto:

  1. Emergence and intention, rather than expectations and objectives,
  2. Simple motor solutions, rather than complex cognitive strategies,
  3. Individual autonomy, rather than dependence on exogenous advice,
  4. Adaptation to context (via motor and contextual intelligence), rather than ready-made recipes,
  5. Confidence and expression rather than doubt and inhibition.

We are a community of recognized professionals and scientists working in various fields (sport, business, education, therapies, etc.).

For more than 25 five years, we have been contributing to the birth of that spontaneous and natural movement science under the impetus of the founders, the leaders of our scientific committee (Dr Pascal Prévost, Sciensport, Prof. Wolfgang Schöllhorn, differential learning), as well as qualified support professionals trained in the identification of natural strengths, also known as motor preferences.

We invite all those who are interested, committed and sensitized to individualization through motor preferences to visit us at our booth and join our booth talk!

"If you guide a person along the road, you are helping them to build their own path!”
