Applications for the ECSS Young Investigators Award (ECSS YIA) that meet all of the requirements are welcome to be submitted online, using the abstract submission process of the upcoming ECSS Congress.

Criteria for the ECSS YIA

  • Only one paper as first author must be submitted for participation in the ECSS YIA 2026 by 13 February 2026, 24:00 CET.
  • During abstract submission you have uploaded a current student enrolment certificate of your university (in English language) including its expiration date or a digital copy of your university or doctoral degree showing that you were awarded it within two years before the abstract submission deadline (i.e., you were awarded it after 13 February 2024).
  • A valid ID, passport, or driver’s licence (in English) must be uploaded to verify that the investigator is 35 years of age or younger at the abstract submission deadline (born after 13 February 1990).
  • A signed and stamped ECSS YIA Verification Form 2026 must be uploaded during abstract submission by 13 February 2026.
  • The investigator has made an independent and reasonable contribution to the work submitted for presentation.
  • ECSS Membership for 2026 must be paid, with the investigator registered as an ECSS Student Member or Member by 13 February 2026.
  • Registration for ECSS Lausanne 2026 must be completed by 8 May 2026.
  • Previous ECSS YIA winners cannot participate in the same category again (Oral/Conventional Print Poster).

*The ECSS YIA Verification Form 2026 must be verified by an authorised person (e.g., Head of Institute) from the ECSS YIA applicant’s department who should also certify that the ECSS YIA applicant has made an independent and reasonable contribution to the work submitted for presentation.

Important information

  • Please note that you need to click ‘YES’ to ‘Application for ECSS YIA’ when submitting your abstract. Next, you will be asked to upload the required documents. Please note, you cannot submit the abstract and participate in the ECSS YIA competition if you have not uploaded all your documents. Once you have completed your abstract submission, the ECSS YIA documents cannot be resubmitted or sent by email.
  • To successfully apply for the ECSS YIA, all requirements must meet the deadlines.
  • There will be no extension of the deadline for ECSS YIA applications.
  • To track your ECSS YIA application status, please log in to your ECSS Account and review the information under myCongress.
  • Abstract submission will only be accepted online.
  • Incomplete ECSS YIA applications will not be considered.
  • Applications are only possible in oral and conventional print poster presentation formats.
  • An ECSS YIA winner cannot be a GSSI award winner at the same time and vice versa.

The 31st Annual Congress of the ECSS will take place in Lausanne, Switzerland and is proudly hosted by the University of Lausanne (UNIL) and the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL).
ECSS Lausanne 2026 will take place in the modern SwissTech Convention Center, which was built in 2014 and is located at the heart of the EPFL campus in Lausanne, close to the city centre.
