The 9th ECSS Bengt Saltin Charity Run is organised in honour of ECSS Founding Member and Patron, Professor Bengt Saltin, in close collaboration with our Italian Local Organising Committee and Rimini Marathon.

We warmly invite everyone to participate – whether by running, walking, skating or any other form of physical activity – to experience picturesque Rimini in the morning! Please note: Participation is limited to registered individuals.

All proceeds will be donated to AIDO Nazionale, an organisation that, among other initiatives, promotes and supports physical activity both before and after organ transplantation. Read more here.

Before the run

To join the 9th ECSS Bengt Saltin Charity Run, please register via your ECSS account (available around mid-April). During registration, confirm your desired donation amount (minimum €10) and indicate your T-shirt size. Once completed, your participation is officially confirmed. Hurry - registration closes on 30 May!

Upon arrival at the Palacongressi di Rimini for the Congress, please collect your running shirt, race number including a time-tracking device and safety pins at the help desk next to the registration area. Collection is available from Tuesday morning until Wednesday at 17:45 CEST.

Getting there

July is a busy time in Rimini, so we strongly recommend avoiding travel by car. Instead, consider coming by foot or public transport (Bus No. 11, stop: “Quattrocavalli”). Alternatively, you can use Lime and Bird Rides Italy e-scooters or bikes, which are readily available throughout the city. More information is available here.

During the run and course details

The run will take place on Thursday, 3 July at 07:00. The ECSS arch will mark both the start and finish line. See the mark in Google Maps to calculate your route.

The 6 km (3.73 miles) route will run counterclockwise along the Rimini coastline, passing by the harbour and historic city centre, before returning through a scenic park and finishing along the coastline. View the detailed course here.

To ensure a smooth experience, police and track marshals from Rimini Marathon will be stationed along the course to guide participants and manage street closures where necessary.

Important Information:

  • Arrival Time: Please arrive ready and assembled by 06:45 at the latest.
  • Bag Drop: A guarded bag drop will be available for your belongings.
  • Medical Assistance: Emergency medical assistance will be provided.

After the run

Enjoy some refreshments after crossing the finish line and cheer on the runners who are still on their way! The three fastest male and female finishers will be recognised once all participants have completed the course. Individual running times will be available later in the day at the ECSS booth.

In addition to the runners, all Congress participants are warmly invited to join as spectators, support the participants and experience this exciting event at first hand.

We look forward to welcoming you at this year’s Bengt Saltin Run!
